Conservative State Representative Ed Thompson today announced he will seek re-election to the Texas House of Representatives in House District 29, the area covering the northern part of Brazoria County, including the cities of Pearland, Alvin, Manvel, Brookside Village, Hillcrest, Iowa Colony, and Liverpool.

“During the 85th Legislative session, we provided critical funding to our public and higher education systems, prioritized the safety of all Texans by banning sanctuary cities, broadened accessibility to personal protection through new license to carry laws, defunded Planned Parenthood, and invested in child protection and mental health, all while balancing the budget,” said Thompson. “It has been a privilege to serve those in House District 29, and I look forward to representing our community next session as we continue to improve the quality of life for all across the state.”

Representative Thompson currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Environmental Regulation, where he oversees all matters relating to air, land, and water pollution, including the environmental regulation of industrial development. This session, he was also appointed as a member of the House Committee on Transportation, where he worked to ensure the proposed high-speed rail project from Dallas to Houston can only be built with private funds. He also provided critical funding to the Border Intelligence Transportation System to increase security measures and expedite trade.

In 2016, Thompson earned the endorsements of the National Federation of Independent Business, Texas Association of Business, Texans for Life, Texas Alliance of Life, National Rifle Association and an ‘A’ rating from Texas State Rifle Association.

Thompson served as Mayor Pro-Team of Pearland before his election to the House of Representatives in 2012, and is currently a local insurance agent in his community.  He is a devoted husband to his wife Freddie, dedicated father to his two children, and loving grandfather to his four grandchildren. The Thompson family attends Sagemont Church in Houston.
