Diverse, Accomplished Group of Students Chosen for Inaugural District 29 Council
(Pearland, TX) – Today, State Representative Ed Thompson announced the names of the fifteen students selected to be members of the District 29 Student Leadership Advisory Council (SLAC). The SLAC will provide a unique opportunity for these high school students to engage in the legislative process with Representative Thompson and to obtain a hands-on education of the role of state government.
“We selected a diverse group of 15 students who attend public school, private school, and homeschool throughout the district,” stated Thompson. “Their backgrounds are impressive, and I am really looking forward to working with these students to share the inner-workings of Texas state government and engage them in the legislative process.”
Students selected include, in alphabetical order: Mikael Floyd, Ted Frick, Kristen Graham, Bushra Hamid, Sarah Hoffmann, Victoria Kiefer, Collin Koza, Shalini Lakshmi, Diego Lopez, Alice Nong, Paolo Obispo, Blake Reddix, Abigail Russell, Ryan Shaw, and Camryn Snell.
The first meeting this fall will be on Saturday, November 7th. Representative Thompson’s hope is that the SLAC will be a resource to educate, encourage, and enlighten the next generation of Texas leaders by providing them with the opportunity to learn more about the intrinsic value of public service and the inner workings of the Texas Legislature.
